Ankle Arthroscopy

Dr. Dhrumin Sangoi / Treatment / Ankle Arthroscopy

Ankle arthroscopy is a key-hole surgical procedure that we use to treat problems in the ankle joint. It involves inserting a thin fiber-optic camera (arthroscope) into the ankle joint through small incisions. The arthroscope transmits images of the ankle joint to a video screen, allowing the surgeon to see inside the joint and identify any problems. The surgeon can then use miniature surgical instruments to correct and repair any damage.

Ankle arthroscopy can be used as a surgical solution for various problems like:

·       Arthroscopic ankle fusion for arthritis

·       Arthroscopic cheilectomy for ankle impingement

·       Arthroscopic ATFL (lateral ankle ligaments) reconstruction

·       Arthroscopic assisted fracture fixations

·       Syndesmosis debridement and stabilization

As these are minimally invasive procedures, healing takes place very quickly, the chance of infection is reduced and rehabilitation is much earlier.

What is Subtalar Arthroscopy or Hindfoot Arthroscopy?

Subtalar arthroscopy is a keyhole technique to visualize the joint below the ankle joint. It can be used to perform:

·       Subtalar fusion – in arthritis cases.

·       Arthroscopic assisted calcaneal fracture fixations

·       FHL tendon or Os-trigonum debridement

 What is Tendoscopy ?

Tendoscopy is a visualization of the tendon with the help of a camera.

·       Achilles tendoscopy can be done to treat Haglund bump and Achilles tendinitis

·       Peroneal tendoscopy is used to treat peroneal tendon inflammation, tear, or subluxation problems.
